Research @ Schulich: 2025 In Review

Happy (belated) New Year!

As 2026 begins, it’s time for us to look back on another successful year of research at the Schulich School of Business.

So what did we do in 2025? Well, a lot! Some highlights:

Our faculty’s dynamic research continues to be published widely in leading journals and is advancing knowledge in fields ranging from climate finance to consumer behaviour and from AI to equity in organizations. This year alone, our faculty published 81 journal articles (including several FT50 articles), 5 books, contributed to creating 7 book chapters, were consulted as subject material experts dozens of times and were granted 19 awards/honours.

This commitment to research excellence is shown not only by the volume  but also by the impact of our research. The Schulich School of Business may be a relatively small school, but, when it comes to research impact, Schulich punches above its weight. Compared to other business schools in Canada, our school is rated #1 nationally for both field-weighted citation impact and percentage of publications published in top journals. This is a bold claim, but the numbers don’t lie:

Between 2021-2024, Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI), including self-citations, was 1.39 in Canada (U15 research universities). In comparison, Schulich’s FWCI was 2.19, in the Business, Management and Accounting subject areas.

This success in research impact may also explain why our faculty secured a record $1.67 million in research funding last year (the highest amount in our School’s history!)  and submitted a record number of grant applications.

Numbers on a page are but one indicator of impact. That’s why I encourage you to review our annual Spotlight on Research , which highlights the  high-quality research generated by Schulich faculty. Want a quick summary? Well, thanks to the hard work of our marketing and communications team, we might be the first business school in Canada to have a sizzle reel to promote our annual research report.

Looking ahead to 2026

Schulich stands ready to continue to be a leader in management research. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Schulich School of Business, this year will see the launch of the second season of the Research @ Schulich podcast, as well as new initiatives designed to promote our faculty and their research outputs.

More importantly, this year will mark our biennial Research & PhD Day, which will open with a plenary discussion focused on “Doing Impactful Business Research in the Future” – a topic that is likely on the minds of most of our current PhD students, not to mention current faculty members.

The business world is experiencing significant upheavals being brought about, for example, by the widespread use (or overuse?) of AI, changes to the global economic order and a growing sense of volatility.  Academia itself faces challenges stemming from changes in funding models, as well as pressure to demonstrate immediate research relevance. But challenge can generate positive change. We hope that you’re just as optimistic as we are about the future of research at Schulich.

On to 2026!
