Women in Business 2019 Share Career Insights
The 10th annual networking event in collaboration with KPMG, Women in Business 2019, attracted over 100 students, alumni and industry professionals yesterday. This event featured a panel of our female alumni leaders sharing their career wisdom and enriching experiences at Schulich.
Marcia Annisette, Associate Dean of Students; Program Director of the Master of Accounting and Associate Professor of Accounting at Schulich, kicked off the evening with special opening remarks that acknowledged the value of female global leaders.
Keynote speaker, Aine O’Flynn (IMBA ’96), Global Head of Equity Products at BMO Capital Markets, immediately captured the crowd’s attention when she revealed that she runs 10km to work daily, and that her favourite Schulich memory is the “601” – the MBA capstone project. “The 601 was so rewarding and taught me so much about teamwork, leadership, deadlines, creativity, goal setting and problem solving,” she said. “These are all the things I apply to my job now.”
O’Flynn discussed her motive for doing her International MBA, shared the curveballs her company is currently facing, and concluded her keynote address with valuable career advice: take ownership of your career; be your authentic self; learn to listen; give people your undivided attention; take risks; speak up and have fun.
The panel presentation featured:
- Psalm Cheung (BBA ’14) (MBA/JD ’18), Student-at-Law, Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP
- Kalyani Goswami (IMBA ’17), Consultant, Trajectory Inc.
- Sara Iannitti (iBBA ’14), Manager, Operations Planning, Air Canada
- Lauren McDonald (MBA ’15), Associate Director, Consulting – Brands, Wasserman
Ela Veresiu (iBBA ’09), Assistant Professor of Marketing at Schulich moderated the discussion and asked the panelists to share the hurdles they faced as they built their careers, and wisdom they would give to their younger selves.
