Schulich School of Business receives National CPA accreditation
TORONTO, ON – Monday, May 26, 2014 – The Schulich School of Business is pleased to announce that the School has received official accreditation under the new Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) National Accreditation Standards.
The official CPA accreditation will provide a range of pathways for Schulich students to tailor their education and directly access the CPA’s Common Final Examination (CFE) as they pursue the CPA designation.
“The official CPA accreditation means that students who are enrolled in Schulich’s Master of Accounting, MBA and other accounting programs will have a more direct route to achieving their CPA professional accounting designation,” said Marcia Annisette, Director of the Master of Accounting program and an Associate Professor of Accounting. “The official CPA accreditation is recognition that Schulich’s post-graduate programs in accounting successfully prepare students for the CPA professional accounting designation.”
Schulich’s Master of Accounting (MAcc) program, designed to give business and non-business university graduates a direct pathway toward a rewarding career in accounting, graduates its first cohort of students next month, said Annisette.
“It’s very exciting to see Schulich’s first crop of MAcc graduates enter the business world, bringing their unique case-based, multidisciplinary perspective into the accounting profession,” said Annisette. “I am so proud of them and I know the business world will benefit from their ability to negotiate complex financial issues with a broad, stakeholder view.”
Schulich Master of Accounting students learn the full range of accounting and related functions, including managerial finance, complex financial reporting issues and auditing information systems. They also gain advanced technical expertise and the ability to make decisions within legal, financial, regulatory and ethical frameworks.
CPA Canada has also accredited the CPA stream of the Schulich MBA. By taking a prescribed number of accounting electives during their MBA degree, graduates are able to gain advanced standing to Capstone 1 in the CPA professional education program; and by completing one term of the MAcc after their MBA they could obtain advanced standing to the CFE.
