CONCERN
A student feels that an action was taken by faculty that violates their rights as outlined in the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
ACTION
Faculty should listen to and address the student’s concern.
Should the student want to pursue other channels, faculty can direct them to the webpage Addressing Conduct-Related Concerns for Students. There they will see two options depending the level of confidentiality they wish to maintain.
Option 1: The student can send a respectful email outlining the concern to the Program Director.
Option 2: If the student wishes to remain anonymous, they may send a respectful email outlining their concern to the Director, Student & Enrolment Services, who will confidentially share the student’s concern with the Program Director.
Regardless of the option chosen, the Program Director will connect with the instructor to discuss the student’s concern, and come to a resolution and/or identify areas for improvement. It is also at the Program Director’s discretion to first involve the Academic Area or Dean, based on the nature of the student’s concern, before approaching the instructor.
OUTCOME
The resolution will be shared with the student either by the Program Director directly or, in cases where they wish to remain anonymous, via the Director, Student & Enrolment Services.
Continue only if the outcome is not satisfactory.
If the student is dissatisfied with the resolution, there are further steps they may take, including but not limited to:
- Dropping the course
- Consulting with the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (CHREI)
- Consulting with the Office of Student Community Relations (OSCR)
In any of the above cases, the student should first book an appointment to discuss next steps with the Director, Student & Enrolment Services. Further, the student may wish to avail themselves for a student advising appointment, at any point throughout the process.
