Schulich Prof Wins 2023 ACR Film Award
The Association for Consumer Research (ACR) has announced Russell Belk (York University) and Lena Cavusoglu (Pacific University) as the recipients of the 2023 ACR Film Award at its annual conference in October. Their film, “Face Value” was selected as the winner out of the pool of films presented at the conference.
“Face Value” features interviews with 19 individuals with facial differences from five continents, offering insights into their experiences navigating society and cultivating a distinctive sense of self-worth. Additionally, it incorporates self-recorded footage and their social media content, providing a personal narrative that delves into their identities, encounters with life crises, and their strategies for handling impolite stares, bullying, and derogatory name-calling.
“It is always nice to be recognized, but what I was really happy about was the pride that our participants showed about the film in their social media posts after the conference,” said Belk. “Two of the individuals attended the film premier and were a key part of the Q&A that followed. And I am thankful for their true collaboration in making the film. They are wonderful people, and I am amazed by their generosity.”
The ACR winners were selected by the track chairs Finola Kerrigan and Eric Ping Hung Li, based on evaluations from multiple reviewers who considered this to be outstanding work with the potential to make a significant impact on the discipline of consumer research.
