How Can Business Promote Social Justice?
This past week, Schulich faculty, staff, and alumni held a panel discussion titled “How can business promote social justice?” The panelists tackled important questions regarding Indigenous businesses, social enterprises, and the potential for DEDI (Decolonization, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) to contribute to business success.
The panel featured expert speakers from the Schulich community, including Sustainability and Economics Professor Irene Henriques, Associate Dean of Programs Ashwin Joshi, and Sadaf Parvaiz (BBA ‘02), CPA, who is the Global Inclusion and Diversity Leader at GHD. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Jean-Jacques Rousseau (MBA ’06), who is an Advisor to the Office of the Dean and Managing Director at Rousseau Ventures.
The panel discussion was part of York University’s Centre for Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion week-long event series titled Inclusion Week, which was led in partnership with the Schulich School of Business and other departments across the University. The aim of Inclusion Week is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the community and to engage in meaningful conversations about social justice.
“We would like to thank Jean-Jacques and the Schulich School of Business for making space for this earnest, reflective conversation,” said Caroline Ruiz, Education and Communication Advisor at the Centre for Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion. “Equity is a social justice framework. We must continue to challenge systemic disparities and discrepancies to complete the transformative work that’s needed.”
