ASEAN Financial Services Opportunities Roundtable a Resounding Success
On March 30 York University’s Schulich School of Business and the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy hosted an international roundtable to discuss timely opportunities for Canadian businesses wishing to expand into financial services markets throughout Southeast Asia.
The event attracted over 50 representatives from Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand in a roundtable to share experiences, increase knowledge of risks and opportunities in Southeast Asia, and directly contribute toward better government policy by informing government decision makers what “getting public policy right” for Canada’s opportunities in the financial sector in Southeast Asia looks like.
With a population of over 600 million and a growing middle class, ASEAN is the second fastest growing economy in Asia, after China. The relative openness of its member economies and moves towards further regional economic integration, Southeast Asia is an increasingly attractive market for the export of Canadian financial and fintech services.
