Below are answers to frequently asked questions from incoming graduate students.

As a reminder, you should first check out the New to Schulich website for helpful quick links, and an idea of what information will be e-mailed to you in the weeks leading up to your program start. Scroll to the bottom of the New to Schulich website to locate your program checklist, which will continue to be updated between now and the start of term.

Please note that you must confirm your offer of admission and pay your deposit to begin receiving details from Schulich. If you are admitted to your program early, note expected timelines for communications in the FAQ below.

General Questions

Enrolment in Classes & Prep Courses

  • When can I enrol in classes? When can I enrol in classes?

    You can only enrol in classes once you receive an e-mail with confirmation of your schedule and instructions specific to your program. You’ll receive a detailed outline of your first term classes and instructions on how to enrol in courses at Schulich based on your date of admission to the program, and your intake.

    If you were admitted for Summer: Course enrolment normally opens in late March. Watch your e-mail for for a detailed Term 1 class schedule and instructions on how to enrol.

    If you were admitted for Fall: 

    • Course enrolment for MBA students normally opens in June. Watch your e-mail for details about your assigned cohort and how to enrol in classes. You’ll learn more about enrolment in your Smart Start webinar with your program advisor.
    • Course enrolment for Specialized Masters programs normally opens in July. Watch your e-mail for a detailed Term 1 class schedule and instructions on how to enrol.

    Please note that you will only receive instructions and access to enrol in classes after you have booked Smart Start (MBA) or registered for your program orientation (specialized Masters).

    I tried enrolling in a course, but it was full/reserved. What can I do? I tried enrolling in a course, but it was full/reserved. What can I do?

    Generally this means that the remaining seats in this section are currently being managed via a waitlist, or are reserved for a specific program. When encountering courses that are “full” or “reserved”, you can add your name to online waitlists. Waitlists can be accessed via the link in your MySchulich portal (or at http://waitlist.schulich.yorku.ca/applications/wlportal.nsf

    Students should ensure a full course-load in the meantime, in case the waitlist cannot be granted.

    How do I complete prep courses that are required for my program? How do I complete prep courses that are required for my program?

    If you are a MMgt, MMAI, MSCM or MMKG student, or if you have received a conditional offer, you may have mandatory prep courses to complete before your first term.

    You will be e-mailed detailed instructions to complete your prep courses (typically 6 weeks in advance of the start of term).

    Do not enrol in the prep courses until you have been contacted by Student & Enrolment Services; in some cases, you may require a Schulich access code, instructions for reimbursement and/or secure links to exam components.

    Are my prep courses graded and/or recorded? Are my prep courses graded and/or recorded?

    This depends on your program requirements. Please refer to your e-mail instructions to understand your commitments for prep course completion, attempts and scores. Generally prep courses (while not part of your academic record), must be completed in order to ensure that you are appropriately prepared for the class material you will encounter in your courses.
