Welcome Back Message – September 2024
Welcome Back!
Welcome to the latest edition of the Schulich School of Business’ research newsletter, where we highlight the cutting-edge insights and impactful discoveries emerging from our world-class academic community. From game-changing research on data analytics to the future of sustainable finance, our faculty continues to carry out and publish research designed to push boundaries and re-shape the future of business.
This edition of Schulich research newsletter comes after a slight pause in our publication during the summer months – though Schulich faculty members didn’t take the same break when it came to publishing their research!
While this newsletter is meant as a “catchup” for research activities from the last few months, it’s also a preview of what’s to come in the coming months. Let’s catch up on some highlights from the last few months!
Looking Back
This July, Moshe Milevsky published his 17th book “The Religious Roots of Longevity Risk Sharing”, a unique historical study on the origins of longevity risk management and annuity schemes, and their links to 18th Century religious institutions in Scotland. Schulich faculty members Cameron Graham , Brent Lyons and Russell Belk also appeared on the printed page, collectively publishing 4 separate book chapters.
Our faculty published a total of 49 papers, including 13 papers in high-impact FT50 journals. A full list of faculty publications can be found on the “Celebrating Our Research Achievements” page.
Our faculty and staff also saw major funding for several projects. Notably, Dr. Abi Sriharan, Scientific Director for Schulich’s Krembil Centre, successfully secured funding for two groundbreaking projects under the “Strengthening the Health Workforce for System Transformation” program, in collaboration with our industry partners, Sunnybrook Health Centre and SickKids Hospital.
Schulich faculty also secured a number of high-profile funding opportunities at a rate higher than their peers, including SSHRC Insight Development Grants (57% success rate vs. a 43% success rate nationally, and a 50% success rate at York), and SSHRC Insight Grants (50% success rate vs. a 34% success rate nationally and a 32% success rate at York).
