For my first 25 years as a part timer, I had almost no contact with Magda. When I took over 601 and YCG in 2010, at first, I dealt with the Dean about issues. Soon enough, people started to tell me, you better check with Magda about that Jim! Well, I think I broke out in a cold sweat at first. Frankly having run a mid-sized consulting company, I wasn't used to asking for permission. So I dropped in on Magda a few times and she insisted on a full explanation of my request. Actually I started to spend more and more time explaining requests or apologizing for administrative faux pas' (mainly about YCG proposals and its many invoice errors). Over time I realized that Magda never actually said no to a request and was always supportive in fixing oversights. But she always got a rationale for the action or decision. I think that is what instilling accountability is all about. That was her role. It was an immense pleasure working (but giving reasons) with such a fair, even handed and personable professional. I trust her retirement transition goes superbly.
