Meet the Class of 2017: Talia Mohammad
This summer, many Schulich students will cross the convocation stage and begin their post-MBA journeys. For Talia Mohammad, the event will also signify an exciting career change.
Two years ago Talia worked in retail management, where her role included general store management, buying and training.
“I realized that I wanted to move into my next leadership role, in a position where I could hit the floor running,” she recalls.
The commitment to pursue an MBA was significant, particularly since it meant removing herself from the workforce for two years. With a target job in Operations Management as her end goal, she took the leap.
Her decision has paid off; during her time at Schulich Talia has developed her portfolio of business and leadership skills in an impressive capacity. As Director of Marketing and Sales for Schulich’s Supply Chain and Operations Management Club, she has analyzed challenges facing women in operations and made real-world recommendations. As a mentor and ambassador for younger business students, she has developed her coaching skills. As an intern at General Mills, she held the title of Associate Marketing Manager and worked on the release of a new product line, led in-store sampling across Ontario and Quebec, and helped to launch a new product website.
It’s been an active, rewarding two years, during which Talia was mobilized and uplifted by her environment.
“The willingness of people within the Schulich community to provide you with their time has been the most surprising part of my MBA,” she says. “From celebrated professors to CEOs of global corporations, their willingness to mentor us and provide feedback is truly incredible.”
Talia has now landed the job she set out for two years ago when she began her Schulich MBA.
“I’ll be working for Amazon in Vancouver when I graduate as an Operations Manager,” says Talia. “This was my target job coming into my MBA and I am extremely excited to join the team in June!”
