Women in Leadership Club Establish New Bursary
Inspiring women is an ideology the Women in Leadership Club embraces. They took it one step further at their annual Aspire to Inspire conference held on March 11 at the Storys Building, announcing the first ever Women in Leadership Bursary.
The award will be given to a Schulich female student in a graduate or undergraduate program who demonstrates high academic achievement and strong leadership attributes. Club Co-Presidents Caitlyn Bertone and Alex Artamonova worked to establish the award to extend their club’s impact and empower the recipient to new heights.
“We want female students to thrive in leadership positions in the workplace,” Bertone said. “There are currently not enough female leaders or role models in the business landscape. This Award will alleviate some of the financial burden for a future leader studying at Schulich.”
The bursary will be awarded to a different student over the next four years; however as Marcia Annisette, Associate Professor of Accounting and Executive Director, Student Services and International Relations, explained at the conference, the bursary will mean a lot more than just the monetary value.
“This Award will have a very powerful and positive impact on a recipient’s success and development throughout their life,” Annisette said while addressing over 130 attendees at the conference. “Future recipients will feel a great sense of pride when they receive the Award and know that the Women in Leadership Club are encouraging their excellence.”
Both club presidents are graduating this year and leaving a lasting legacy at Schulich is their final way to give back to the school that “greatly impacted our lives”.
