Women in Business 2016 Networking Event
On May 18th, Schulich hosted the annual Women in Business event at the stunning Bay Adelaide Centre. Sponsored by KPMG, the event celebrates the achievements of women in business, as well as gives potential MBA candidates a chance to learn more about how the diverse programs at Schulich can fast track a career.
This year’s keynote speaker, President and CEO of Moneris Solutions, Angela Brown (MBA ’84) shared how she made tough decisions throughout her career, like taking a pay cut to enter a different industry, to invest in her future. “You need to cultivate contacts, be confident in your skills and deliberate in your career focus. Students starting their career need to demonstrate that they can adapt fearlessly to new situations, make difficult decisions and invest in themselves,” Brown said.
The second half of the evening showcased a panel of distinguished Schulich alumni: Lisa Marie Chen (MBA ’12); Sara Maki (IMBA ’11); Iris Shamrony (MBA ’13) and Christine Trinh (MBA ’13) with moderator, Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems, Moren Lévesque, who identified how Schulich helped transform their careers. “The key takeaway from the event is that changing jobs allows you to move farther up in your career,” Lévesque said. “It forces you to become comfortable with change and that is a crucial skill in a rapidly changing world.”
