Undergrad Wins North America’s Largest Investment Conference

This past weekend, James Jung (BBA ’19) took home the first prize for the annual stock pitch competition held by ENGAGE Undergraduate Investment Conference. He was a solo presenter, facing teams from over 30 universities across North America, which included Stanford, Harvard and Columbia.
Jung pitched PlayAGS, a Las Vegas-based company that supplies equipment to casinos, as the stock that investors should back up. He was confident that his pick would impress the panel of industry professionals because it is already backed by Apollo Investment Corporation – a well-established investor with a track record of success.
Jung is currently specializing in Finance, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management at Schulich. He started competing in stock picking competitions in first year and has won every major competition in Canada since then.
“A large portion of my learning was done through my involvement in on-campus finance clubs, such as the York University Student Investment Fund (YUSIF),” shared Jung. “Through YUSIF, I was given the opportunity build and present stock pitches at Schulich, receive constructive criticism from like-minded peers, as well as industry professionals. This was instrumental in achieving my success in stock pitch competitions.”
Jung will be working at a technology-focused investment bank in San Francisco after he graduates next Spring.
