Schulich Wins MLSE Case Competition for the First Time
This past weekend, our undergraduate case team of David Sholkov (BBA ’22), Jett Bui (BBA ’22) and Tyler Taaca (BBA ’22), won first place in the fourth edition of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE)’s Global Partnerships Case Competition at Scotiabank Arena. It marks the first time Schulich has captured this distinction.
This competition brought together students from institutions across southern Ontario to compete for an summer internship interview opportunity with MLSE’s Global Partnerships department. The competition tasks students with developing a marketing partnership between one of MLSE’s team properties and a brand.
Twelve undergraduate teams were divided into three groups, with the top team from each group advancing to the finals. The two participating Schulich teams finished atop their respective group with, Sholkov, Bui and Taaca, ultimately taking first place.
The team for their proposal developed a partnership between the Toronto Raptors and Banana Boat, a brand of sunscreen products. They devised the #SetTheScreen campaign, which was built off the foundation of street basketball.
“Winning this competition was a result I really wanted for the School to continue to build Schulich’s brand in the Canadian sport industry,” said Marketing Instructor Vijay Setlur, who teaches sport marketing and is the Faculty Advisor for Schulich’s undergraduate and graduate student sport business clubs – York Sports Business Association and Schulich Sports Business Association, respectively. “This tremendous achievement complements two other key milestones achieved this month, my class reaching 100 academic project partnerships and Schulich staging the milestone 5th annual Sports, Media and Entertainment Career Fair. Both have made January 2020 a month to remember for sport business at Schulich.”
Congratulations, David, Jett and Tyler on this historic accomplishment!
