Schulich places First at Net Impact Case Competition about Responsible Consumerism
Schulich won first place at the 2024 Net Impact Case Competition hosted in Vancouver by Simon Fraser University. Congratulations to Disha Mittal (MBA/JD Candidate 2024), Ian Chang (MBA/JD Candidate 2024), Shelley Zhang (MBA/JD Candidate 2025) and Abilash Sathyakumar (MBA/JD Candidate 2025).
This was Schulich’s first time participating in this competition. The case was sponsored by Aritzia, a successful Canadian clothing retailer. They challenged students to provide a proposal on how Aritzia can engage their customers in responsible consumerism. Recent trends in fast fashion and consumption patterns have led to high levels of waste in the industry. Aritzia is committed to making their operations more sustainable, and to making a positive impact on the industry in this area.
The Schulich team did a great job in first understanding the essence of the Aritzia brand, as well as the behaviour of their target customers. They provided a recommendation that aligned with the core DNA of the Artizia brand, while also supporting their customers in making more responsible choices. The judging panel was comprised of executives from the company. They told our team members after the presentation that they were impressed with how well they understood their company and tailored the recommendations specifically for their brand.
“I decided to participate in this competition because it seemed like an exciting opportunity to provide actionable solutions to a brand that I know and love – Aritzia,” said Zhang. “This was a great learning experience that allowed me to hone my business expertise, collaborate with some amazing and talented individuals, and gain valuable mentorship from our coach, Joe Fayt.”
