Schulich Net Impact hosts discussion on ‘Racial Inequity in the Corporate Ecosystem’
Last evening, the student-led Schulich Net Impact Chapter hosted a live zoom discussion about racial injustice and the systemic effects of anti-Black racism broadly, and more particularly, in the corporate ecosystem.
As stated by the Net Impact leadership team: ‘As future business leaders, we have a responsibility to engage in discussions which are often uncomfortable, but absolutely essential. We are living in peculiar, uncertain, yet historic times. It is absolutely vital that MBA students in particular, step up to the plate and engage in important discussions that go beyond the performative activism that is plaguing our online social feeds.’
The event featured the following business leaders as panelists and was moderated by second year MBA student, Aaleen Anjum, Co-President of the Schulich Net Impact Chapter:
Anthony Afolabi: Global Data Manager at BCG
Meryl Afrika: President of The Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals
Arnold L. Flowers III: Senior Manager at Amazon Web Services
Tricia Gazarek: Director of Conflict Management Services at Lewis & Gazarek
Collins Nzekwe: Managing Partner at Lex Consulting & Schulich MBA Student
Symone Williams: Associate at McKinsey (DC office)
Aaleen welcomed the participants and reiterated in her opening remarks that this gathering was a call to action, a way to create meaningful impact on the topic of anti-Black racism by facilitating a positive engaging experience where all participants leave feeling more educated, informed, and supportive.
The panel discussion then moved into a Q&A session with the panelists answering questions submitted by the audience during the event via the chat function. Finally, the audience was invited to continue the conversation in smaller more interactive breakout rooms where audience members could envision how they can be allies and contributors to change.
The Schulich community wishes to thank all panelists for their participation and the Schulich Net Impact leadership team (Aaleen Anjum, Ashima Chadha, Matthew Gartner, Kunal Singh, Ritika Shukla, Abhinav Anand, Eisha Popli, Sukriti Boparai and Peng Ray Liu) for organizing the highly successful evening.
