Schulich is pleased to announce the establishment of the OMERS & Oxford Real Assets Leadership Institute at the Schulich School of Business together with a term-funded Chair in Real Assets.
“Our school is proud to partner with the leadership and talent at OMERS and Oxford Properties, to create the new OMERS & Oxford Real Assets Leadership Institute at Schulich,” said Detlev Zwick, Dean of the Schulich School of Business. “The Institute will play a role in helping build better cities and in shaping the communities of tomorrow while advancing Schulich’s reputation as an international hub of excellence in real estate and infrastructure.”
The Institute’s mandate is to enhance the ability to attract and develop top-calibre students with the potential to become exceptional industry and community leaders, while contributing to and guiding the development of highly relevant, applied, and actionable research which is valued and utilized by industry to advance best practices.
“We are very grateful to industry leaders OMERS Infrastructure and Oxford Properties for their collaboration and support that will help propel the Real Estate and Infrastructure programs at Schulich to the next level globally,” said Jim Clayton, Director and Timothy R. Price Chair in Real Estate and Infrastructure. “The Leadership Institute and faculty Chair are important additions that will enhance and elevate the partnership between industry and academics to attract and develop the next generation of industry leaders.”
The Chair will lead the development of the Institute in Real Assets in its central role of bridging, solidifying, and enhancing partnership and collaboration between industry, students and the research community, as well as advancing curriculum and applied research.
The inaugural Chair is Joseph Ogilvie, who has been teaching in the Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure (MREI) program at Schulich since the inception of the program in 2017, and more recently leading applied research and industry partnerships in the Tim and Frances Price Urban Lab in the Real Assets Area at Schulich. Ogilvie’s expanding role recognizes his commitment to teaching excellence, actionable, applied research and leadership development.
“Thank you to the Schulich School of Business for the work you do to help mold future leaders of the real estate and infrastructure industries, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to create sustainable, successful and thriving communities,” said OMERS President and CEO Blake Hutcheson. “We are proud to support education in this country and industry and to help shape the careers of the leaders of tomorrow as they set out to build our communities of the future. We look forward to witnessing the impact of the Institute’s work and are confident that it will play a significant role in advancing this province and country, helping build thriving communities, and fostering innovation.”
