Schulich Alumni Raise Money for N95 Masks for Toronto
Millions of masks have been received in Canada to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic as the country faces a serious shortage of PPE. Among them are 10,000 N95 masks coming from the contribution of more than 150 Schulich alumni.
When the pandemic hit Canada in mid-March, Lian Duan (MBA ’06) and Tracy Mao (MBA ‘13) discussed what they could do to help. They launched a fundraising campaign on WeChat targeting Schulich alumni in Canada and in China. Their goal was to raise money to purchase masks for healthcare facilities in Toronto, a second hometown to most alumni.
On April 13ththe N95 masks were distributed to Baycrest Health Science and the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care from funds raised by the initiative. Lian secured the masks and arranged logistics, while Tracy focused on coordinating through her government network where these masks were most needed.
Since the initial announcement, Eric Hua (MBA ‘05), Cynthia Cao (MBA ‘05), Yutao Bao (MBA’09) and Frank Xing (MBA ‘05) also became champions of the initiative.
