iBBA Alumni Awarded Silver Jubilee Scholarship
The York University Alumni Board has recognized Schulich graduate, Meena Shanmuganathan (iBBA ’21), as the 2021 recipient of the Alumni Silver Jubilee Scholarship. The Award acknowledges an undergraduate student with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.00 and who has involvement on campus or other community leadership, participation in extracurricular student life, volunteer services, achievements in athletics or the arts or any other significant endeavours.
“Schulich placed a lot of emphasis on exceeding expectations outside of the classroom as well as inside,” she says. “There were so many opportunities in the last four years to participate in case competitions and research studies, and not just go to school and come home.”
This past year Meena held the position of Vice President Academics for the iBBA program, which provided a challenge as students were studying online and not in-person on campus. She and her co-VP planned a fully virtual RISE conference for the first time ever, with 125 delegates and over 100 alumni attending. Not only was it a huge success, it helped pave the way for future virtual events.
Now on to law school, Shamuganathan shares this advice for undergraduates starting this fall: “My advice to first years is always get involved. Because when you look back at your time at university, you’re not going to remember that one really hard exam you had or the class days, you’re going to remember organizing events and making new friends at club socials. The only way to have those memories is to be involved from the get go, because these years go by so quickly.”
