Building the Foundation for Future Industry Leaders
Four Schulich Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure (MREI) students joined forces with University of Toronto (UofT)’s architecture Masters students to form “Four Corner Investments” and competed in the seventh annual NAIOP Development Challenge.
The first stage required each team to produce a development proposal for a prominent site in Toronto, where they mimicked real-life scenarios. After a preliminary round of judging, 14 teams were eliminated by experienced industry practitioners. Four Corner Investments was one of the three teams that moved on to the finals.
Last Thursday, each finalist had to demonstrate their talents and skills through written and live oral presentations. Despite being the only student team competing against 17 industry teams, Four Corner Investments took home the grand cash prize of $10,000.
“The NAIOP Development Challenge provided us the opportunity to develop and showcase all that we have learnt in the classroom at Schulich to leaders in the real estate industry,” shared Umehani Kanga (MREI ’19). “It was a great way for our team to hone our analytical and creative skills and work on a development plan for an existing site in Toronto.”
