Award-winning MBA grad featured in Supply Professional Magazine
Gurkirat Singh (MBA 2018) recently graced the cover of Supply Professional Magazine, with an accompanying feature article about his rise in the supply chain sector. He has won two industry awards and earned promotions since graduating with a Supply Chain Management MBA specialization two years ago.
Gurkirat first became interested in supply chain when working in India in the tire and automotive sectors after an undergrad studying mechanical engineering. After immigrating to Calgary in 2015, he realized he needed more education if he wanted to compete in the Canadian work force. When he was ready to study, he chose to move to Toronto and attend Schulich.
“Schulich is one of the premier MBA schools in Canada, which attracted me to apply. Schulich also has a vast alumni network. The advantage of being in Toronto, one of the biggest business hubs in North America, was also a major influence on my decision making. Schulich provided a great return-on-investment.”
While studying at Schulich Gurkirat started an internship at BGIS – and the company kept him on part-time while he continued his studies. After he graduated, he began full-time work at BGIS and recently was promoted to Strategic Sourcing Manager.
Gurkirat advises current supply chain students not to focus just on their specific sector. “Focus on networking and keep an open mind to all industries, supply chain roles exist in all and you never know that which fits you best.”
