Charles H. Cho

Charles H. Cho, PhD, CPA, is Professor of Sustainability Accounting and the Erivan K. Haub Chair in Business & Sustainability at the Schulich School of Business, York University. He holds a PhD in Business Administration (Accounting) from the University of Central Florida. Prior to joining York University, he held faculty positions at Concordia University in Montreal and ESSEC Business School in Paris, France.

Professor Cho’s research focuses on social and environmental accounting and accountability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and accounting for the public interest. He has more than 20 years of experience teaching, conducting research, and engaging with the sustainability, social and environmental accounting and reporting (SSEAR) community across multiple countries. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Business & Society, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, European Accounting Review, and the Journal of Business Ethics, among others.

He currently serves as Editor of Accounting Forum and Associate Editor of Business & Society. He also contributes to several professional organizations, including CPA Ontario (Sustainability Strategic Advisory Committee), the European Accounting Association (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee), and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), where he serves as a member of the Global Sustainability Standards Board.

An internationally recognized scholar, Professor Cho is frequently invited to deliver plenary keynote addresses at international conferences and professional events and is regularly sought by the media for commentary on sustainability and accounting issues. He was recognized as one of the Republic of Korea’s “Top 50 Academic and Research Support Projects” by the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, received the Honorable Knight Award from the University of Central Florida Hall of Fame, and ranks among the world’s top 2% most-cited accounting researchers.

Before entering academia, Professor Cho worked for several years in auditing and taxation with KPMG LLP and other public accounting firms.
