    The Dean’s Leadership Dialogues feature our School’s most accomplished alumni and business leaders from around the world in a thoughtful and engaging fireside chat with Schulich Dean Detlev Zwick.

    The Leadership Dialogues provide a dynamic and interactive platform for members of the Schulich community and the public to engage with inspirational thought leaders and business pioneers on a wide range of issues – everything from leadership and sustainability to diversity and digital transformation. All the events will be recorded, so those who cannot attend can watch them later.

Rob McEwen (MBA ’78, Hon LLD ’05)
Chairman and Chief Owner, McEwen Mining

Rob is the Chairman and Chief Owner of McEwen Mining, which has three producing mines in Nevada, Ontario, and Argentina and holds 46% interest in the large Los Azules copper project in Argentina. His career has been deeply rooted in the gold industry, beginning with 18 years in the investment sector and, since 1990, serving as CEO of several gold mining companies. As the founder of Goldcorp, Rob helped grow the company from a market capitalization of $50 million to over $8 billion. Currently, he owns 16% of McEwen Mining (MUX) and 13% of McEwen Copper and takes a salary of $1 per year. Rob’s personal investment in MUX and McEwen Copper exceeds $225 million.

Rob was awarded the Order of Canada in 2007, the Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee Award in 2013, was inducted into the Mining Hall of Fame in 2017 and has Honorary Doctor of Law Degrees from York University and Western University.

He is also a member of the Dean’s Global Council, Schulich School of Business; X Prize Foundation: Vision Circle and Board of Trustees; a member of CEO (Chief Executive Organization) and of WPO (World Presidents’ Organization) and serves on the Advisory Board of the McEwen School of Architecture. Rob and his wife, Cheryl, have donated over $60 million to encourage excellence and innovation in healthcare and education.

Born & raised in Shanghai, Andrew WU is a leading authority on Chinese consumer trends and influential professional in luxury industry for the region. With MBA degree from Schulich Business School, after living in Canada 1980~1993, he returned to head Dior cosmetics operation in China for LVMH, pioneering local luxury marketing and retailing between 1993~2000; he then joined Sony Music Entertainment between 2000-2005 to help commercialization of Chinese artists & repertoire in Greater China; and he re-joined LVMH in 2005 as Group head of Greater China territories, overseeing rapid business development of LVMH’s multi-brand portfolio in Chinese marketplace over past 19 years. While inconvenienced for international travel during three years of Covid-19 pandemic, he has also become a well-respected promoter of Chinese culture and heritage, gaining much social recognition in China.

A Schulich graduate, Rick Waugh started his career as a young branch teller in his hometown of Winnipeg and rose to the top of one of the world’s most international banks. During his tenure as CEO, Scotiabank successfully navigated the worst recession since the Great Depression. Having occupied a front row seat while the world economy stared into the abyss, Rick will speak about how Canadian banks survived the 2008 financial crisis, did not require a government bailout, and how the global banking sector can prevent future financial crises from occurring. The dialogue session also provides a rare opportunity for Schulich faculty, students and alumni to engage with one of Canada’s most accomplished business leaders.

Kathleen (Katie) Taylor is Chair of the Board of RBC. She has served on the Board since 2001, where she has chaired the Human Resources and Corporate Governance Committees, and served on the Audit and Risk Committees. Ms. Taylor also serves as Chair of Altas Partners, a Toronto-based private equity investment firm.

In 2013 Vito moved to Audi Canada as the Director for Sales Operations leading the company to new records. Audi Canada became the fastest growing premium car brand with an increase in sales of 75% over a five-year span. He has been the President of Audi Canada since September 1, 2020.

Jasper Cheung joined Amazon after more than ten years of corporate finance experience for companies in Asia and North America. He began his Amazon career as Finance Director for Amazon.co.jp in December 2000, before becoming President of Amazon, K.K. in April 2001, and being named President of Amazon, G.K. in May 2016.
