Schulich Business Excellence Academy (SBEA)

After last year’s great success, we are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Schulich Business Excellence Academy program for summer 2024.

The Schulich Business Excellence Academy is a summer business education and mentorship program supporting approximately 60 Grade 10, 11, or 12 high school students across Ontario. The program targets all students from under-represented groups with a focus on Black and Indigenous communities. The program provides high school students in need with resources to become tomorrow’s leaders. The SBEA Program will commence on July 8, 2024 for 3-weeks ending July 25, 2024, and will be delivered by prominent guest speakers from the community as well as Schulich Faculty members. The sessions will be held virtually and will consist of a series of lectures and group-based activities. At the end of the program, an in-person graduation dinner will be organized at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Keele Campus, for the participants who complete the program.

Groups of approximately six high school participants and one Schulich undergraduate student mentor will be introduced at the start of the program. A small group setting is a great way to connect with people while building useful interpersonal and business skills. The goal of the program is to help participants build soft skills, gain business knowledge, and become competitive applicants for post-secondary education opportunities. Participants who complete all of the required modules will receive a Certificate of Completion at the closing ceremony dinner. Be sure to sign up soon as spaces are limited.

Program Outline

Sessions will be conducted Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from July 8 to 25, 2024. Sessions will include prominent guest speakers, Schulich Faculty, and interactive activities led by Schulich SBEA Leaders. The final session involves a case competition which enables students to exercise the skills they have learned in their groups with their student leaders.
