Accredited by CPA Ontario (Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario), the Schulich Master of Accounting (MAcc) is an academically rigorous and highly intensive full-time program using the renowned Schulich Accounting Case Method, that is designed to prepare students for a career in professional accountancy.
Study with one of Canada’s best accounting faculties to master accounting functions and hone the ability to make effective decisions within legal, financial, regulatory and ethical frameworks. The Schulich MAcc is structured to prepare its graduates for the complex field of accounting while fast-tracking them through CPA Ontario’s Professional Education Program.
Successful graduates of the program will be prepared to sit for CPA’s Common Final Examination (CFE). In addition to gaining in-depth knowledge of all sub-disciplines that constitute the broad field of accounting, students will have an opportunity to deepen their expertise in two of the three program areas of specialized electives: tax, assurance and performance management.

Career Opportunities
The Schulich Master of Accounting program will provide you with the critical thinking and business acumen required to make informed accounting decisions. Whether you pursue the CPA designation or a career in accounting, this intensive program will allow you to launch your career in the field of accounting.
Throughout the MAcc program you will also have access to the Centre for Career Design (CCD). As Schulich’s in-house team of certified Career Coaches and Industry Advisors, the CCD offers a wealth of innovative programs, resources and individualized coaching to help you launch your career. Meet alumni, recruiters and industry leaders at corporate information sessions and other CCD events and enjoy online access to the very best career tools available.
Recruiters value the technical and accounting skills MAcc graduate possess, paired with their knowledge of legal, regulatory and governance frameworks. Accountants are hired in various functions, such as financial accounting, management accounting, cost accounting, tax planning, estate planning and auditing.
Those pursuing the CPA designation could also work with the leading CPA firms, as well as controller type roles in all industries upon completion of the CPA designation.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the MAcc are listed below. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission, as space in each program is limited. A holistic approach is taken during the application review process and all components of the application are thoroughly reviewed.
- A four year undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum B average in the last two full years (or equivalent) of academic work;
OR a three-year degree from an Indian institution with a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rating of at least an A, and who have achieved a first-class rating (60% and above) overall in their bachelor’s degree;
OR students with a three-year non-Canadian degree (except degrees from India) are required to have their degree assessed by the World Education Services (WES) (to be the equivalent of a four-year degree in Canada). - Prerequisite courses in Economics (Micro & Macro), Statistics and Corporate Finance or Canadian Business Law taken at the undergraduate level.
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (waived for graduates of Canadian universities within the last five years)
- Acceptable scores on all measures of the GMAT or GRE
- To send your GMAT or GRE test scores to the Schulich School of Business, please use the following process:
- GMAT: Use the search function within your GMAT/GMAC account to search for the Schulich School of Business when selecting your score recipients.
- Example of how our name appears: York University, Schulich School of Business, Program Name (ie. Master of Business Administration, Master of Finance, Master of Supply Chain Management, etc.)
- GRE: Send your score using the following code: 5697
- GMAT: Use the search function within your GMAT/GMAC account to search for the Schulich School of Business when selecting your score recipients.
- Work Experience
- Post degree work experience is recommended but not required.
- Completion of the online application which requires:
- Essays (2 written, 1 timed written, 2 video)
- An up-to-date resume
- Two references
- Unofficial copies of transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions*
- Unofficial copies of GMAT or GRE scores*
- Proof of English language proficiency if studies were not completed in English.
*Official copies of these documents will be required if an applicant receives an offer to the program.

Applicants who have completed at least two years of full-time study at an accredited university in a country (or institution) where English is the official language of instruction are not required to submit an English proficiency test.
Students who have graduated from Schulich within the last five years are eligible for the following:
- GMAT/GRE waiver
- If the student achieved a B+ or better GPA during their last two years of undergraduate studies
- Letters of recommendation
- Essays
- A $150 application fee waiver*
*Not applicable for graduates of Canadian universities within the last five years
Please note: Your GMAT/GRE score and responses from your referees can be completed after your application has been submitted. A preliminary review of your application will still be done prior to receiving these items.
Students may only submit a single application. Students are not permitted to apply in multiple rounds or to multiple programs.

Advanced Standing
Advanced Standing with a Business Degree |
Students holding a four-year business degree from a Canadian institution may be eligible for Advanced Standing. Note that you must have a minimum B grade in all applicable courses that are required for Advanced Standing. Meeting these course requirements does not guarantee Advanced Standing. If granted, Advanced Standing would allow you to enter the program at Term 2 in September and complete your degree in twelve months (three terms) of full-time study. Advanced Standing for Schulich i/BBA |
Schulich i/BBA in a non-accounting specialization may be eligible for Advanced Standing to the MAcc program. This program is 12 months in duration beginning in the fall term (September each year). The general admission requirements for the MAcc are listed below. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission, as space in the program is limited.

Accelerated – Schulich BBA Accounting Stream students |
Students who have graduated or expect to graduate from the Schulich i/BBA with the accounting specialization may be eligible for the Accelerated MAcc program. If admitted to the Accelerated MAcc program you to enter the program at Term 3 in May. This program is 8 months in duration made up of two consecutive summer terms (May each year). The admission requirements for entry to the Accelerated MAcc program are listed below. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission, as space in the program is limited.

Registered CPA students who have completed CPA-accredited Core 2 of the PEP may be eligible for admission to the Accelerated MAcc program.

The MAcc is a full-time program consisting of four academic terms. A term is equivalent to one semester, or 12 weeks.

Diploma in Intermediate Accounting (DIAc)
The Diploma in Intermediate Accounting (DIAc) is an 8-month exit diploma for Master of Accounting (MAcc) students who elect to graduate after completion of Term 2 of the MAcc program.
Students opting to graduate after Term 2 with the DIAc will have a solid foundation in the field of Professional Accountancy in Canada and a thorough understanding of financial and management accounting fundamentals.

The Diploma in Advanced Accounting (DAAc)
The Diploma in Advanced Accounting (DAAc) is an exit diploma for Master of Accounting (MAcc) students who elect to graduate after completion of Term 3 of the MAcc program.
DAAc is accredited by CPA Ontario. Successful graduates of the program will have completed the CPA Electives and be eligible for entering the capstone phase of CPA’s accreditation program. Completing the Diploma in Advanced Accounting allows you to be exempt from the CPA PEP Elective modules.
