• SP Research Project:

    Get Involved in Leading Edge Research on Sustainable Purchasing

    If you have professional experience in sourcing goods and services, we are inviting you to participate in research on how supply chain professionals make supplier selection decisions that consider sustainability. The results of this research will be shared with participants through publications and public forums.

    The research project is being conducted by researchers from the George Weston Ltd Centre for Sustainable Supply Chains, Schulich School of Business, York University, and the Lindner College of Business, University of Cincinnati.

What is Involved?

  • If you agree, you will be asked to consider three brief sourcing scenarios then answer questions about them online
  • Your responses will be anonymous
  • This will require a time commitment of approximately 20 minutes

Why Should You Participate?

Apart from furthering your knowledge as supply chain practitioners, participants are entered for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

  • 1st prize: One of two Amazon e-cards (or equivalent), each worth CAD $500.00
  • 2nd prize: One of four Amazon e-cards (or equivalent), each worth CAD $250.00
  • 3rd prize: One of ten Amazon e-cards (or equivalent), each worth CAD $100.00
  • 4th prize: One of twenty Amazon e-cards (or equivalent), each worth CAD $50.00

How Can You Participate?

This study has been reviewed and has received ethics clearance from York University’s Office of Research Ethics. The researchers are David A. Johnston, George Weston Ltd. Chair in Sustainable Supply Chains, Sunny Tian, Doctoral Researcher from Schulich School of Business, and M. Johnny Rungtusanatham, Canada Research Chair in Supply Chain management and Ohio Eminent Scholar, Linder College of Business, University of Cincinnati.

Director and Research Chair, George Weston Ltd. Centre for Sustainable Supply Chains, Schulich School of Business

David Johnston is the Director and Research Chair of the George Weston Ltd. Centre for Sustainable Supply Chains at the Schulich School of Business, and Program Director of the Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) program. Dr. Johnston’s published research is in collaborative supply chain management, operational sustainability, improving healthcare operations and the management of process innovation. His most recent work is focused on strategies for securing the long term resilience of critical supply chains.

M. Johnny Rungtusanatham, University of Cincinnati

Professor

M. Rungtusanatham is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati; a 2017 Fellow inductee of the Decision Sciences Institute; a 2015 Dennis E. Grawoig Distinguished Service Award also from the Decision Sciences Institute. He is considered as one of the top-50 authors of research in supply chain management, according to Supply Chain Management: An International Journal (in 2019), and a top “individual researchers with greatest overall contribution to the field of Operations Management,” according to International Journal of Production Research (in 2015).

Sunny (Huiqing) Tian, Schulich School of Business, York University

Ph.D. Candidate

Sunny (Huiqing) Tian is a Ph.D. student in Operations Management and Information Systems at the Schulich School of Business, York University. Her research interest focuses on sustainable supplier selection and understanding the ways in which organizations develop capabilities to purchase sustainably, employing methods such as interviews and behavioural experiments. Sunny previously completed her Master of Environment and Sustainability at Western University.
