Schulich alumnus Farrukh Saleem (BBA ’18) describes his time at the School as both challenging and nurturing. Whether preparing for a case competition with teammates or celebrating the culmination of each semester with friends, it left him with invaluable lessons that helped shape the person he is today.

While a student, Farrukh participated in various clubs that included the Corporate Social Responsibility Society and York DECA, where he not only met some of his closest friends but gained essential business skills, knowledge, and experience that continue to serve him well today. Sharing his best Schulich memory, Farrukh circled back to his first year when he attended the School’s annual Alumni Recognition Awards event in 2014: “I had always known that our School produced some of the world’s most influential business leaders, but seeing many of them together under one roof and hearing about their Schulich journeys created an atmosphere of excellence and inspiration that made me reflect on the type of legacy I wanted to leave behind after I graduated.”

Last year, Farrukh made his first gift to the Schulich Annual Fund and joined the Dean’s Society, the School’s premier leadership-level giving society. Farrukh experienced first-hand the power of paying it forward: “I received a scholarship while a student for which I remain grateful to this day. For me, philanthropy has always been about bringing people together for a common cause, while also creating opportunities for others.” That sense of gratitude inspires Farrukh to continue giving back to his Schulich community whether through charitable contributions or mentoring students. Last year, Farrukh served as a mentor at the Alumni2Student Speed Mentoring event at CONNECT ’20, Schulich’s annual alumni forum.

“The best thing about being a Schulich alum is being part of a global community, and that connection lasts a lifetime,” says Farrukh.
