Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you had a lovely summer!

I also hope that you are refreshed and as thrilled to return to school as I was when I was a kid.

Well, I still am like a kid and excited to return to school. 😊

For those of you who were teaching over the summer, I suspect you are glad that the school’s far-too-quiet halls are once again busy and full of enthusiastic students!

Summer can be a quieter time of year for research because we have the kids around, go to conferences, or take longer vacations
but, apparently, that is not the case for Schulich’s faculty!

Our faculty was uniquely busy over the summer semester. Between June and September, our faculty published 36 academic journal articles, three book chapters, four working papers, two trade publication articles, a new episode of the Research @ Schulich podcast, and an op-ed. Add to that 16 media hits, and we have an impressive summer!

This summer also saw the release of a special edition of our annual Spotlight on Research report. Published to celebrate the Schulich School of Business’ 60th anniversary, this year’s report is a wide-ranging overview of the research undertaken by our scholars over the past 60 years, and includes a feature titled “From Then Until Now,” which looks back on research highlights from the past six decades.

You can read the report here or watch our recently released Spotlight on Research promotional video, featuring former Associate Dean, Research, Eileen Fischer.

What Is Next?

Notwithstanding the great work that the Research Office Team has accomplished so far, I view my recent appointment as ADR as giving us a great opportunity to refresh some of our initiatives and start some new ones for 2027 and beyond. Our core functions will, of course, remain the same.

The Research Office Team will continue to support our faculty’s applications for grant and funding opportunities, we will continue to promote our faculty’s research outputs, and we will continue to support the School’s efforts to maintain and promote our high research productivity.

Concurrently, our new initiatives will sustain and expand research excellence at Schulich in a future-forward way. We will explore building stronger ties between the Research Office and Schulich’s Centres, Institutes, and Labs to encourage our faculty to increase their research links with industry, and to pursue ambitious ideas that are relevant to both academia and practice. We will also raise the profile of the important research work being conducted across the School, and create new opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations, including pilot funding to encourage cross-area work focused on solving the most pressing challenges facing business and society today.

We also plan to create mentorship opportunities and improve access to research funding opportunities for junior scholars. Moreover, we will capitalize on our established research strengths while expanding into new and emerging areas. For instance, we already have developed strength when it comes to the use of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) as a research tool – we plan to capitalize on this. Importantly, we will work toward elevating Schulich’s research presence on the national and global stage.

“By investing in our people, expanding our global reach, and leading in areas of strategic importance, we will strengthen Schulich’s reputation as a destination for world-class research and thought leadership.”

I realize that this is very ambitious. But together, these efforts will reinforce our shared vision of creating research that is innovative, collaborative, and relevant.

By investing in our people, expanding our global reach, and leading in areas of strategic importance, we will strengthen Schulich’s reputation as a destination for world-class research and thought leadership.

Thank you all for what you have accomplished so far – and here is to another great year!

Bien Ă  vous,
