Gary Whitelaw Strength in Diversity Award

Our mission towards a more equitable and inclusive future at BGO rests on the strong foundation that Gary Whitelaw helped to build over his more than two decades of leadership. This scholarship, in his name, represents a continuation of this important work, and we are looking forward to supporting Gary in his efforts to enable opportunities for young, diverse talent to bring strength and progress to our industry” said Sonny Kalsi, CEO of BentallGreenOak.

Established in June 2021, the Gary Whitelaw Strength in Diversity Award honours Gary Whitelaw’s tireless efforts and commitment to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities and removing barriers from achieving success to the fullest extent possible. The Award aims to create pathways for Black, Indigenous, and female students to study and pursue a career in the commercial real estate industry. A signatory to the BlackNorth Initiative’s pledge, alongside York University, BentallGreenOak (BGO) is committed toward developing and advancing Black people and building an inclusive pipeline of talent that is representative of the diverse communities they serve.

BGO’s investment of $250,000 will provide annual scholarships of $25,000 per year for ten years to a Black, Indigenous, or female student enrolled in Schulich’s Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure Program, as well as an optional opportunity for a paid, 12-month internship at BGO following graduation.
