At the fall convocation, Schulich Professor of Marketing, Anne & Max Tanenbaum Chair in Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise, Director, PhD Program, Eileen Fischer earned one of York University’s most prestigious honours with a University Professorship.

“It is a very validating feeling being awarded a University Professorship,” Professor Fischer said. “Being a citizen of the university has always been important to me and this recognition shows that everything you do matters; from teaching in the classroom, to participating in the conference room, or sitting on a committee.”

A University Professorship is awarded to a member of the York faculty in recognition of their scholarship, teaching and particularly participation in University life and contribution to the academic community. Only 25 faculty members across York hold the distinction, and only three other Schulich faculty in the past 50 years have been recognized, including; Professor Wade Cook, Professor James Gillies, and Professor Joyce Zemans, C.M.

Professor Fischer has done multiple stints of service as a Chair on the Academic Policy, Planning and Research Committee as well as other internal and external committees. She has co-authored the book Qualitative Consumer and Marketing Research with Professors Russell Belk and Rob Kozinets and has earned multiple honours and awards worldwide. In the classroom, she is a pioneer in curriculum innovation, having spent over 20 years teaching and refining a doctoral course called Qualitative Methodology, recognized by students and faculty from around the world.

“Eileen Fischer has reached the highest echelons of academic success and has excelled in all dimensions of academic endeavour. The honour of being named a University Professor is truly well deserved,” said Dean Dezsö J. Horváth.
