Graduate Full-Time Exchange (SSIR)

Any student enrolled in the MBA program may apply to study abroad. To be eligible, students must:

• Complete all 5000-level required courses prior to departure and a minimum of 24 credits at Schulich. Students with advanced standing should consult the MBA Program Handbook for eligibility requirements. Note: some exceptions may apply. Refer to information listed for the partner school or consult with the Graduate International Program Coordinator.
• Attain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 5 (B) on those 24 credits.
• Complete the application process and be offered a space at one of our partner schools.

Students wishing to apply for an exchange abroad should attend an Exchange Information Webinar Session.

Take advantage of exchange reports written by Schulich students who have returned from an exchange term abroad.

Reminder: The posted application deadline is the last day to submit an application. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis – apply early!

Step 1

Complete the online application form and upload the following documents with your application*:

• Response to the Graduate Exchange Application Question
• A Proposed Study Plan form for each school listed on your application
• An up-to-date resume

Step 2

All eligible candidates will meet with the Exchange Selection Committee for a 20-minute interview.
Students are matched to a partner school based on their response to the application question and their interview. The Exchange Selection Committee is looking for the student’s rationale for the school, in combination with their professionalism and ability to be an ambassador for Schulich.

Step 3

Exchange acceptance will be announced shortly after the interview.

Confirmation Process

Students will be sent an email informing them as to the school they have been matched. They will be given approximately one week to confirm their acceptance of the offer.

Partner School Nominations

Once confirmed, the Graduate International Program Coordinator will nominate student(s) to the partner school at which time, the exchange school will contact the student to begin setting up the exchange. The student will be required to submit the requested documentation to the partner school.

Prior to Departure

Please complete the following steps:

1. Attend a mandatory Pre-Departure Session (dates will be emailed to you).
2. Apply for required travel documents:
   • It is your responsibility to research and apply for the correct travel document/visa to enter your destination country as an exchange student. Your host school will likely have additional information on what is required. Do NOT delay in applying for your visa, as processing times may be lengthy. If you are not able to obtain your visa in time, you may need to withdraw from in-person exchange.
3. Make travel arrangements:
   • It is your responsibility to fully understand the requirements to enter your host country and to make appropriate travel arrangements. We strongly encourage students to also purchase trip cancellation insurance, in case you are unable to travel (due to visa delays, unexpected border closures, etc).
4. Obtain comprehensive travel health insurance.
5. Submit an Enrolment Status Change Form prior to registering for the exchange term if changing your status to/from full-time or part-time enrolment.
6. Email the following information to the International Program Coordinator for approval prior to departure:
   • A copy of the Final Study Plan Form (as a Word Document)
   • One copy of each courses’ syllabus/outline
   • Course offering information provided by the school
7. Register in the appropriate number of EXCH 6900-level courses through Passport York and ensure your Schulich tuition is paid for the term.
8. Submit the online Emergency Contact Form, Risk & Responsibility Waiver Form and Schulich Travel Registry
9. Register with Foreign Affairs in your home country. Canadians travelling abroad can register here.

It is recommended that students check-in with the International Program Coordinator prior to departure.

Confirm your Final Study Plan with the International Program Coordinator within two weeks of the start of classes:

1. Send an email confirming that this study plan has not changed or
2. Update the study plan with the changes and email it with the course descriptions to the Graduate International Program Coordinator or exchange@schulich.yorku.ca.
3. Update your EXCH course enrolment through Passport York if your credits on exchange have changed.

If course code enrolment listed on your study plan form and York enrolment do not match:

• You can risk not receiving credit for the courses you completed on exchange if you have not registered in the corresponding number of credits on Passport York
• If you register in too many exchange credits on Passport York and not enough on exchange, you may receive F grades for not fulfilling the registered course/credits listed on Passport York.

Work on your exchange report and testimonial throughout your exchange so that you have the information and photos needed to submit at the end of the exchange (refer to the Post Exchange section).

Students are required to submit an Exchange Report & Testimonial.

Exchange grades (recorded as a pass or fail on the Schulich/York transcript) will be posted once the following are received:

1. Exchange report
2. Exchange testimonial
3. Official exchange transcript
