Schulich’s Tim and Frances Price Urban Lab Partners with Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada to Drive Productivity Through Innovative Infrastructure Business Models

The Tim and Frances Price Urban Lab at Schulich Real Assets in the Schulich School of Business has entered into a significant partnership with Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC). This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aims to explore the potential of innovative business models to address Canada’s infrastructure needs. By attracting private capital, spurring innovation, and promoting competitive productivity gains, the partnership seeks to enhance economic, social, and environmental values in new partnership arrangements with Canadian businesses.
The research will focus on industry sectors where private finance may be involved, given the potential for revenue generation or productivity growth. The primary objectives are to create new opportunities for private investment and to drive productivity through innovative infrastructure business models.
Leading the research is James McKellar, Professor Emeritus in the Schulich School of Business, joined by Karen Shlesinger, Program Director of the Urban Lab, Professor Jim Clayton, Timothy Price Chair and Director of Schulich Real Assets, and a Research Associate student from the Schulich School.
