Schulich School of Business Launches New Certificate in Digital Transformation with $1 Million Donation from RBC Foundation
Toronto, ON – July 15, 2025 – The Schulich School of Business at York University today announced the creation of a new Certificate in Digital Transformation, made possible by a $1 million donation from RBC Foundation.
Launching in Fall 2025, the 12-week, in-person program will support up to 75 participants over five years, equipping them with the skills and strategies needed to lead successful digital transformation initiatives across organizations. The program places particular emphasis on the needs of Canada’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A report by RBC Thought Leadership estimates that 15 per cent of the Canadian labour force will be disrupted over the next decade as the country shifts toward a net-zero economy.
Led by Professor Murat Kristal, the Certificate in Digital Transformation combines academic insight with hands-on learning to address a significant skills gap in digital leadership and meet the growing demand for tech-savvy business leaders. The curriculum features expert-led modules, simulations, real-world case studies, and a capstone field project, ensuring participants graduate with actionable, career-ready expertise.
The program is designed for mid-career professionals, corporate intrapreneurs and leaders of small and medium enterprises seeking to build capacity in digital strategy, AI integration, and innovation leadership. It will also serve as a powerful on-ramp for those pursuing new roles and opportunities in the fast-evolving digital economy. The program includes direct exposure to industry leaders in Toronto’s vibrant tech ecosystem.
The new certificate builds on the momentum of Schulich’s highly successful Tech MBA and further strengthens the School’s position as a national leader in digital transformation knowledge and talent development.
“Thanks to the support of RBC Foundation, Schulich is advancing its mission to deliver cutting-edge business education that empowers professionals to lead in a digital-first world,” said Detlev Zwick, Dean of the Schulich School of Business. “This new certificate will help close the digital leadership gap in Canada, support SME innovation, and provide new career pathways at the intersection of technology, strategy, and sustainability. We are proud to partner with RBC Foundation in driving this critical initiative forward.”
“Given the rapidly evolving digital landscape and acceleration of AI, new skills will be needed to thrive in tomorrow’s economy,” said Michelle Waite, Regional President Greater Toronto Region at RBC. “This new certificate will empower leaders to meet today’s challenges while driving prosperity for the country.”
Applications for the Certificate in Digital Transformation will open on July 15, with the inaugural cohort beginning in the Fall term.
