Schulich and CGI Celebrate Launch of Certificate in Enterprise Systems Development
The Schulich School of Business and CGI celebrated the launch of the new CGI Certificate in Enterprise Systems Development on September 15, welcoming the program’s inaugural cohort of 44 students.
Hosted by Schulich’s Institute of Digital Business (IDB), the launch brought together members of the Schulich community, CGI leaders and students to mark the start of the new program.
Developed in collaboration with CGI, the 34-week certificate equips early-career professionals, recent graduates and career shifters with foundational coding skills and hands-on experience in enterprise IT environments. The program includes 13 courses across six modules, covering areas such as programming, AI-enabled system integration, DevOps, cybersecurity and quality assurance, and culminates in an applied industry capstone project.
“Technology is transforming how organizations operate, compete and create value. And the demand for people who can bridge technology and business has never been greater,” said Schulich Dean Detlev Zwick. “That’s why this program is so timely and important.”
Combining academic expertise with industry insight and applied learning, the certificate is taught in person by CGI professionals, Schulich faculty and industry experts. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their learning through an enterprise-focused capstone project mentored by CGI professionals.
The launch event featured a fireside chat between Gaurav Juneja, Senior Vice President and BU Leader – Commercial and Public Services at CGI, and Professor Murat Kristal, Executive Director of Schulich’s Institute of Digital Business.
The certificate is part of a broader partnership between Schulich and CGI supported by CGI’s $1-million investment in talent development and Canada’s digital future.
The launch marks another step in IDB’s work to connect academic excellence with industry practice while developing talent equipped to navigate rapid technological change.
As Zwick told the inaugural cohort, the partnership is about more than one certificate: “It’s about building skills, creating opportunity and strengthening Canada’s capacity to compete in a digital economy.”
