Research @ Schulich Podcast highlights World-Class Scholars
Get ready to explore the cutting edge of business, management and leadership research with our new podcast series – Research @ Schulich, your gateway to discovering cutting-edge academic insights and ground-breaking research. In each episode, Schulich’s world-class scholars take you behind the scenes of their transformative research, offering fresh perspectives on ideas shaping industries and driving organizational success.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this podcast,” said Eileen Fischer, Professor of Marketing; Associate Dean, Research; and Anne & Max Tanenbaum Chair in Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise. “Schulich is home to many world-class scholars whose research has redefined how we understand the intersections of business and society. This podcast series will dive into transformative ideas and share cutting-edge findings, fostering a rich dialogue that bridges theory with real-world practice across the many fields where Schulich scholars excel. ”
The podcast is hosted by Schulich Accounting Professor Cameron Graham, who has been conducting research interviews since 2019 on his own podcast – Podcast or Perish.
“I love talking to researchers about their work,” said Graham. “They teach me so much about how to understand the world. Many of the best researchers are also among the best teachers, so they are very, very good at explaining what they do. I’m delighted to be speaking with my colleagues at Schulich for this new podcast series.”
In the first episode, Graham interviews Winny Shen, Associate Professor of Organization Studies, about “Bad Bosses”. Sharing findings from two of her recent papers (Bad, mad, or glad? Exploring the relationship between leaders’ appraisals or attributions of their use of abusive supervision and emotional reactions and Leading through the uncertainty of COVID-19: The joint influence of leader emotions and gender on abusive and family-supportive supervisory behaviours), Shen answers why some bosses feel guilt versus shame after yelling at subordinates and how gender plays a role in if bosses are more likely to engage in abusive leadership behaviour.
Each Research @ Schulich episode will be about 20 minutes. Extended versions of each interview will be posted on the Podcast or Perish website, along with video versions on YouTube (www.youtube.com/@camerongraham).
“This podcast aligns with our new push to mobilize knowledge and research to a broader audience outside of academia,” said Farhana S. Islam, PhD, Research Officer, Office of the Associate Dean, Research. “I would like to invite podcast listeners who are interested in finding out more about Research @ Schulich to check out our media and social media releases to learn about key findings from academic journals, our quarterly research newsletter, and our annual Spotlight on Research report, which collects and summarizes all the fantastic things our faculty has done over the past year, from grants and appointments to books and journal articles.”
