Recent MBA Grad Lands Dream Job as Director of Finance
A Schulich MBA 2020 grad, Abhinav Singhvi, was recently appointed to the position of Director of Finance at Volatus Aerospace, a fast-growing vertically integrated provider of unmanned aircraft and drone services.
“Having an MBA from Schulich is the reason I landed this opportunity – the overall in-class experience, case studies, and the connections I developed,” said Singhvi. “Heading a finance function in an exploding industry is exciting. It’s the perfect path towards my long-term career goals.”
When Singhvi received the interview for the position, the first thing he did was reach out to Graeme Deans, M&A professor, to seek his advice. He also called on connections he built through his MBA in the PE industry to get other insights.
“Networking is vital; everyone knows that. Connecting with external professionals is just a part of the process; it’s also key to network internally with colleagues, professors, and everyone at school,” said Singhvi.
Singhvi used the Career Development Centre to learn how to navigate the job market in Canada. Being President of Schulich Ventures Club was also helpful. Singhvi says it became much more comfortable to approach professionals and leaders in the industry to assist with his podcast, Venture Journey, which he started in 2019, to interview CEOs, MDs, and C-Level executives.
Singhvi has this advice for current MBA students: “There’s always a path – direct or indirect. Find your path and consult with industry experts and mentors. And always go back to why you wanted to do your MBA, your core objective. It’s important never to lose sight of that and to keep referring to it time and again.”
