Pride Alliance Conference Fosters 2SLGBTQ+ Visibility and Community
The Schulich Pride Alliance (SPA) recently hosted their flagship event SPECTRUM 2023. The annual conference promotes LGBTQ+ visibility and aims to foster a sense of community among business students and professionals.
“SPECTRUM is far from the typical conference,” said former delegate Shania Lazaro. “I have never been so comfortable being myself.”
The two-day event provided a range of engaging activities for delegates, including interactive workshops, industry panels, a powerful drag show, and a case competition. Jason Pon, Manager, Climate Change and Sustainability Services at EY, and Brione Lacey, Commercial Account Manager at RBC, delivered two thoughtful keynote speeches on the importance of navigating the business world with pride.
Schulich Pride Alliance, a volunteer-run organization, engaged over 15 corporate sponsors and partners to produce the conference. The collaborative endeavour reflects the Schulich business community’s ongoing commitment to create a welcoming space for all individuals, regardless of sexual or gender identity.
“Schulich supports the goal of SPECTRUM to bring together business students to advance the cause for 2SLGBTQ+ students and alumni, particularly as it relates to the student experience at business schools and their future career experience,” said Schulich Dean Detlev Zwick, who delivered welcome remarks.
