MBA in India Students Participate in Virtual Internships with Canadian Companies

In the summer of 2020, 30 Schulich MBA in India students participated in virtual internships due to COVID-19 travel restrictions to Canada.
“When the pandemic started to unfold and as we were coming up with all kinds of plans for the students here in Toronto, my mind went immediately to what are we going to do for the students in India,” said Chris Carder, Co-Director of Entrepreneurial Studies. “And that was really the origin of what became the virtual internship program.”
For 12 weeks, Schulich MBA in India students connected virtually with 24 Canadian companies. During this time the students worked on detailed plans, including such challenges and opportunities as: competitor analysis; market research; content marketing, target market analysis, and business development.
“The whole idea that I would not be able to do an internship, what will happen, how will I be able to connect with somebody in Canada, or will I be getting that Canadian culture experience, that was put to ease,” said Upasna Khanna, MBA 2021. “The virtual world has made connection so easy, it didn’t even feel like we were working remotely.”
