How Zaynab Shaffie Turned Networking and Preparation into a Supply Internship at Reckitt
Zaynab Shaffie (BBA ’28) recently secured a Supply Intern position with Reckitt, an exciting opportunity that reflects both her initiative and strategic preparation throughout the recruitment process.
Her journey began after attending recruitment events hosted by the Schulich Centre for Career Design (CCD), where she connected with Jessica Costa, Corporate Relations Specialist, who encouraged her to participate in the Reckitt On-Site Career Trek during the Fall 2025 semester. The experience gave Shaffie valuable insight into the organization, its portfolio of globally recognized brands such as Lysol and Dettol, and the company’s supply chain opportunities.
“As someone interested in supply chain, I was immediately drawn to the opportunity,” she shared.
Recognizing the competitive nature of internship recruiting as a second-year student, Shaffie proactively sought support from the CCD. She worked closely with Christopher Symonds, Career Design Advisor, who provided detailed feedback on her resume and cover letter, helping her secure a first-round interview.
To prepare for the interview process, Shaffie booked a mock interview with Symonds, which she described as instrumental in helping her simulate the real interview environment and identify areas for improvement. She continued refining her responses through peer practice sessions, conversations with former interns, and AI-assisted preparation tools.
This combination of preparation and persistence ultimately helped her approach interviews with confidence and professionalism.
“Ultimately, the CCD played a critical role in my journey to securing this opportunity, providing both the resources and support needed to navigate a highly competitive recruitment process,” said Shaffie.
