From MBA to Strategist: Sara Amin’s Path to Full-Time Success at AECOM
During her final year at Schulich, Amin worked closely with Chris Symonds, Career Design Advisor at the Centre for Career Design, whose guidance played a pivotal role throughout her job search. From refining her résumé to strengthening her networking approach, Symonds provided hands-on support at every stage of the process. His insights were especially valuable when Amin found herself choosing between two competitive opportunities, helping her evaluate which role best aligned with her long-term career goals.
After discovering the Strategist role at AECOM through LinkedIn, Amin took a targeted approach to her application. With support from CCD, she tailored her résumé to reflect the competencies AECOM was seeking and ensured her experience clearly aligned with the role. When she received an interview invitation, Amin once again leaned on CCD, seeking advice on what to expect and how to prepare effectively.
She dedicated time to researching AECOM’s current projects and the team she would be joining; an approach that gave her added confidence during the interview process. Reflecting on her journey, Amin emphasizes the importance of resilience: “Staying encouraged and patient was incredibly crucial. There were many times I was close to giving up, but I remembered that the only way I’d land a position was through consistency. Never giving up was the key to success.”
