From Career Resources to Career Leadership: How Arshia Arora Leveraged the Schulich Community to Land a Director Role
For Arshia Arora (MBAN ’24), building a career in Canada meant learning how to navigate a new job market while finding ways to effectively communicate the value of her experience. Today, she is the Director of Data Analytics at Marketing Impact Ltd., a journey supported by the resources, advising, and connections she gained through the Schulich Centre for Career Design (CCD) and the broader Schulich community.
Throughout her job search, Arshia made regular use of CCD’s career resources, including resume and cover letter templates, advising appointments, and Quinncia, CCD’s AI-powered career tool (currently Big Interview). She used Quinncia to assess her resume for applicant tracking systems and identify opportunities to strengthen her wording, incorporate relevant keywords, and better communicate measurable results.
CCD advising was particularly valuable as Arshia navigated the Canadian job market for the first time. Advisors helped her shift from simply describing responsibilities to highlighting impact using results-focused resume bullets. She also learned to apply the STAR method during interviews, giving her a structured approach to communicate her experiences and accomplishments with greater confidence.
Career fairs and events provided another important avenue for connection. Through an invitation, she was able to attend a Vector Institute career fair and conference, organized by the CCD, where Arshia connected with a senior TELUS leader who later became a mentor. The Schulich community also played a direct role in her career journey when David Elsner, MBAN Program Director, connected her with the President of Marketing Impact Ltd., creating the initial connection that ultimately led to her current role.
Today, Arshia is giving back to the same community that supported her. In her role, she leads capstone projects involving Schulich’s MBAN and MMAI students, helping the next generation navigate their own career journeys. Her story is an example of how CCD resources and the Schulich community can create lasting career connections, confidence, and opportunities.
