Detlev Zwick, Dean

Associate Professor of Marketing

Detlev Zwick is Dean of the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 2002.

Prior to assuming the role of Dean in 2021, Professor Zwick served as the School’s Interim Dean. Under his leadership, the School launched several key initiatives focused on delivering a world-class student experience, intensifying research productivity and knowledge mobilization, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to address systemic barriers for Black and Indigenous students, and engaging partners to help financially support a record number of students.

As Associate Dean, Academic from 2018-2020, Professor Zwick led the School’s rapid transition to remote online learning following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served as Director of Schulich’s BBA/iBBA Program from 2013-2018.

Dr. Zwick’s research explores modern marketing practices and new forms of consumer surveillance, capture and manipulation. His work has been published widely in marketing, communication, media culture and sociology journals, as well as in edited collections. He is co-editor of the book Inside Marketing: Practices, Ideologies, Devices (Oxford University Press), and frequently provides expert commentary to the media.

Giri is Professor of Accounting and Associate Dean, Students at the Schulich School of BusinessGiri has previously served as the Program Director for Master of Management. Before joining York University in 2013, Giri was a Professor of Accounting and Financial Management Services and Associate Dean (Academic) at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. He has also been a visiting professor at Nanyang Technological University, HEC Paris and Erasmus University. His research focuses on financial institutions in particular bank stability, excessive risk-taking and financial reporting transparency. At Schulich, Giri has taught courses in the PhD, MBA, IMBA, India MBA, MAccMMgt and BBA programs.

Ashwin Joshi, MBA Program Director

 As Director, Ashwin is tasked with ensuring that the curriculum is at the cutting edge and that the quality of teaching is best in class. Prior to assuming this role, Ashwin spent 7 years living and working in India as Executive Director of the India Campus of the Schulich School of Business during which time he launched the MBA Program in India and was responsible for all aspects of its delivery.  Since 1999, Ashwin has taught across the BBA, MBA, PhD, and EMBA programs at the Schulich School of Business.  Ashwin’s teaching has been recognized by the students at both the BBA and MBA levels with the Seymour Schulich Excellence in Teaching Awards.  In addition to teaching at Schulich, Ashwin is especially proud of his association with the Kellogg-Schulich EMBA Program where he has taught a course in Research Methodology and in the Kellogg-Recanati EMBA Program in Israel where he teaches a course in Marketing Strategy. Ashwin’s research focus is upon new product development and innovation.  He has published his work on these topics in leading journals in the marketing discipline including the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Journal of Product Innovation Management. 

Kostas Tsambourlianos

Kostas brings to the table more than twenty years of experience in leadership roles, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Lafarge, IBM and MedSleep.  He completed his undergraduate studies at York University and completed his Project Management Professional designation in 2004.  After completing his Executive MBA at the Kellogg-Schulich School of Business, he began teaching in the MBA Program at Schulich, specifically the International Business course and expanded into the 601 Strategic Field Studies.  He is a highly impactful and highly resourceful senior executive with accomplishments in leadership of strategic business planning, operations, business analytics, P&L, and innovative business solutions to maximize business goals and revenue growth in a variety of healthcare organizations.  He currently holds the title of President and Chief Financial Officer for Medsleep, a public/private healthcare company with more than 45 offices across Canada.  In addition, he is the Director of the York Consulting Group and is the Associate Director, Strategic Field Studies at the Schulich School of Business.

Kevin Tasa is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour, Program Director of the Master of Management, and Area Coordinator of Organization Studies. He holds an MSc in Health Administration and a PhD in Organizational Behaviour, each from the University of Toronto. He also has received the MBA Teaching Excellence award at both McMaster and Schulich, and is a co-author of two widely used textbooks, Essentials of Negotiation and Canadian Organizational Behaviour. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Kevin has published his research in journals such as Academy of Management JournalJournal of Applied PsychologyJournal of Organizational Behavior and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Currently, his research focuses on negotiation and team dynamics; in particular, the assessment of negotiation-specific knowledge, the manner in which negotiation knowledge is acquired, and the within-group dynamics of negotiation teams.

Dr. Murat Kristal completed his doctoral degree (PhD) in Operations, Technology and Innovation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With a research focus on supply chain and operations management, Dr. Kristal has completed projects in resource allocation in manufacturing, the impact of competition on supply chain, and the development of mass customization capabilities through organizational learning and knowledge management. Channeling his passion for analytics and artificial intelligence, he pioneered the first analytics programs of its kind in Canada. His expertise in innovation, ideation and research is evident through his distinct ability to connect business problems with analytical and AI solutions. He is the Program Director of both the Master of Business Analytics (MBAN) and the Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) programs at the Schulich School of Business. He is an Associate Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems and guides the learnings in both the Analytics Consulting Project and the Artificial Intelligence Consulting Project courses in the MBAN and MMAI programs, respectively.

Markus’ research examines how markets dynamically shape human behavior, often in the context of new technologies.

His work has been published in top-tier academic journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing and received extensive coverage in media outlets such as The New York Times, Wired, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Time Magazine.

He currently serves as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Marketing, and is also on the editorial review boards at the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Consumption, Markets and Culture, Marketing Letters, and Business & Society.

With over a decade of expertise in psychology, Cherry Rose Tan has guided thousands of leaders through the trenches of mental health. A fifth-generation entrepreneur, her superpower is helping leaders talk about the really hard things, so they can lead powerfully at work.

As the Founder of #REALTALK, the mental health movement for the tech industry, Tan has impacted 40,000 attendees through live events. Known as North America’s largest platform for Founder Mental Health, founders and VCs share their stories on her Top 14 Business podcast. A mental health authority, she has been featured in Forbes, Inc., and CBC.

Tan is the Entrepreneur in Residence at the Schulich School of Business, where she advises a global ecosystem of 200 startups and 3,000 members. As an early investor of Paycase Financial, a Canadian blockchain pioneer, she believes that entrepreneurship is the path to creating Disproportionate Good on the planet.

Panelist: Azra Samji, MBA '21 Panelist: Azra Samji, MBA '21

Azra Samji is passionate about creating inclusive and equitable spaces where all can thrive.  After graduating with a Bachelors of Science and a Bachelors of Education from the University of Alberta, Azra went on to work in the non-profit and government sectors. While working for the Government of Alberta, Azra played a significant role in designing and implementing the Taking Action Against Racism report, Alberta’s first cross-ministerial anti-racism strategy. Azra went on to complete her MBA at the Schulich School of Business, where she specialized in social sector management, organizational behaviour and sustainability. During her time at Schulich, Azra also served as the President of the Graduate Business Council. Since graduating, she has pursued her passion for diversity, equity and action and currently works with lululemon as the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action lead, Global Guest Education Centres

Panelist: Evan Daurio, MBA '20 Panelist: Evan Daurio, MBA '20

As a Senior Product Manager on the TV Product Marketing team, Evan Daurio helps oversee the strategic direction for all TELUS TV products and packages. In his role, Evan is instrumental in developing and implementing industry-leading product evolution and pricing strategies to maximize profit growth and product retention across TELUS’ TV portfolio. Evan first joined TELUS in March 2020 as a Strategy Manager overseeing channel strategy and insights within TELUS Mobility division. Before joining TELUS, Evan held previous roles at Environics Analytics and Corus Entertainment with a focus on business strategy development and data analytics. Evan holds an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business and an Honours Business Administration from Western University’s Richard Ivey School of Business.

Priyadeep is a social entrepreneur turned consultant with over 7 years of global experience in developing results-oriented strategies and people-centric solutions for the public as well as the private sector. Currently, she leads key strategic initiatives within the Deposits portfolio at CIBC as part of the Project Delivery and Business Strategy team. 

As a Forbes 30 Under 30 Global Changemaker (the year 2015) shortlist, Priyadeep is passionate about empowering communities and creating a sustainable impact! Determined to support organizations serving the community, she serves as the Director of Impact and Evaluation at Collaboration Partners to provide pro-bono consulting services for non-profits in Ontario.  

 Priyadeep received a Bachelor in Technology degree from the GGSIP University, India, and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University, Canada.

Sebastian is from Colombia, where he studied Economics with a specialization in Financial Risk Management. In 2020 he graduated from the Schulich School of Business MBA program with a focus on Finance and Organization Studies. 

He came into the MBA with six years of experience in the Financial Industry and Banking Sector in Colombia and worked in various roles and areas such as Financial Planning, Market Risk Management, Liquidity Risk Management, Treasury & Assets and Liabilities Management.  

He currently works as a Treasury Associate of the Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) Leadership Develop Program at the Toronto Dominion Bank(TD). He joined TD in June 2020 after graduating and has completed three rotations within TBSM (Closed Balance Sheet, Margin and Net Interest Income Management and Intraday Liquidity Management), and currently working in Enterprise Capital Management.
