Conrad Fernandes (MBA ‘15) is a recipient of the 2018 RBC Global Citizen Award. In October Conrad travelled to Africa with 46 award recipients across RBC’s global offices. While in Kenya, the group participated in meaningful initiatives through the ME to WE social enterprise supporting existing sustainable practices. This included making tools for income, harvesting crops, collecting water and building a dormitory at Kisurani Secondary School.

“One day we visited Kipsongol Preschool where we were welcomed by hundreds of women and men, families, teachers and community members who were singing, clapping and dancing as we stepped out of our vehicles,” Conrad recalls.

“This was one of the first communities that benefited from RBC’s 10-year commitment to the Blue Water Project. RBC’s involvement supported water for drinking, daily activities and their irrigation systems for crops. We were recognized by the community with beaded necklaces; and our group executives were presented with a goat to commemorate our impact.”

Conrad is an active Schulich alum who is also involved in many other volunteer advisory boards and committees, including Autism in Mind Children’s Charity, the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and JA Central Ontario. His nomination for the award was supported by a group of executives from many charitable organizations as well as Dean Dezsö Horváth.

“Conrad personifies the definition of a true global citizen as he continues to help those in need through his volunteerism across several communities and organizations,” said Dean Horváth. “He is a model alumnus and a great ambassador for the Schulich School of Business.”
