About Jeanhy Shim
Jeanhy Shim has over 25 years experience working in the real estate development industry providing strategic market analysis, advice and innovative solutions to leading developers, financial institutions, brokers and consultants in the Toronto GTA. Her experience and expertise spans the full spectrum of real estate development, including: land acquisition; market research and analysis; building design and development; project management; sales and marketing strategy; sales team management; post-construction service; and property management.
Jeanhy has worked as a Vice President or as a consultant on over 100 major residential projects across the Toronto GTA, as well as projects in other areas of Ontario, Canada and USA. In 2013, she founded Housing Lab Toronto – an independent housing research & consulting firm dedicated to ‘rethinking’ how we grow our cities by engaging residents in the process, and then framing insights into practical and feasible solutions leading to better targeting, clear product differentiation, and ultimately, competitive advantage for city builders.
In 2015, Jeanhy launched the Children’s Discovery Centre pilot project – Toronto’s first and only children’s museum, and proved that there is a growing need and demand for family-friendly amenities and infrastructure as key part of our growing city. Based on the success of the pilot, work is now underway to open a permanent, world-class children’s museum in Toronto.
Jeanhy also brings a unique perspective to her work as a consumer, owner and resident, and serving as President of two condominium corporations over the past 8 years. In her community, Jeanhy served on the Board of Directors of Woodgreen Community Services for 4 years , and she Chaired the Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Association High-Rise committee and International Housing Study Tour committee for 9 years. She has also volunteered as a Mentor with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and NAIOP Mentorship Programs.
In recognition of her contributions, Jeanhy was recognized by the ULI Women’s Leadership Initiative as among the top 150 female leaders in real estate in Toronto (2015). She was also the recipient of the BILD Riley Brethour Award (2011) and Canadian Home Builder (CHBA) Award of Honour certificate (2008).
Most recently in 2017, Jeanhy was invited to serve on the Board of Directors of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and she was appointed by the Federal Government to serve on the Board of Directors of Waterfront Toronto – a tripartite governmental organization established to direct and administer revitalization projects on 1,877 acres of land along the Toronto waterfront.
Jeanhy has a Master’s degree (M.Sc. Economics) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in England, and a Bachelor of Science (BA. Hon) from McGill University in Montreal.
